Someone once told me to not change anything about my person. This request is physically and emotionally not possible. Life changes you no matter what. It can make you a better person or a worse one. It can show you how to love or how to hate. It can be the one thing that sets you over the edge, and you would not be able to get back. Life has a way of making things better or worse. That's the way life is. If it wasn't like that, how would we live? It would be boring and predictable. I'm not saying that we should look forward to the bad things in life. How could we? That would be absolutely crazy. We should focus on how the bad things can change us for the better. How that they can possibly help us see how other people are struggling with the same things and help them and yourself get better. It can help us save a friend or help an enemy. It can help us to be able to bring a person that is on the edge of ruining their lives and many others back to the point where it all feels like its going to be okay. Life gives us chances to redeem ourselves. It gives us chances to use what it taught us to help others in that same situation. People who know no better than to try and not fight for their lives and what they believe in. Never give in to anything. Always fight back for what's right. Always try to take the higher and better road. Never settle for anything less than you deserve, and maybe, sometimes, never settle for a little bit more than you deserve. You always deserve better. You can always do better. Because we are human, and we strive to be the best, to do the best, to create the best, and to have the best. Always change, for in change we have power.
The descent beckons as the ascent beckoned. - William Carlos Williams, The Descent I have decided that every so often I will write on a quote that is taken from some of the books I read. This one is from Cassandra Claire's The Mortal Instruments Part 3. This quote is talking about heaven and hell. The descent and the ascent. The descent (hell) never stops beckoning to you. It is forever enticing you to go deeper, do something worse than what you've done before. It drags you down and beats you at your own game. It loves to be seen doing it, too. That's why the most humiliating things you get caught at in life are bad. Misery loves company, I guess. The ascent is sort of different. Heaven only asks once. It lets you know it was there and lets you make the choice of if you want to commit or not. It doesn't constantly bug you to go to its side. It's kind. It's loving. It supports the good in you. It wants to make that good come and be a part of everyone...
